Accident Prevention Trust

The Accident Prevention Trust has useful information for parents this season, including firework safety and toy and battery safety. You can access the parents' pack on the Accident Prevention Trust website.

January sessions

If you would like your child's sessions or days to change in January, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

Spare clothes

Some children do not have appropriate spare clothes, or any spare clothes, in their bags. Please make sure your child's bag contains weather-appropriate clothes that fit them, as we may not have suitable spares available when needed.

Welcome!

We want to welcome all of our new children and their families to our setting. We have had a busy few weeks helping everyone to settle in.

We understand how hard it can be for some children to settle in, but we are all on hand to help with this transition. Please speak to a member of staff if there is anything we can do to make it run smoothly.

Reminders for new families

  • Please remember cutlery in lunchboxes and cut food appropriately to reduce choking risk.
  • Include an ice pack in lunchboxes.
  • Pack spare clothes in a cloth bag.
  • Bring a dummy to stay at nursery if needed.

Library

The new parent library is now available on the veranda. If you would like to borrow a book to share at home, choose one from the box of books and use one of the bags with a clipboard to write down which book you have borrowed.

Toothbrushing and Flossy! 🧸 πŸͺ₯

The children are all now taking part in supervised toothbrushing at nursery. We are being observed in October and hope to achieve our Gold Smile 360 accreditation.

We hope you have all made use of your free toothbrushing pack, supplied by Oxford Health. You should receive one of these twice a year.

We also have Flossy, our dental teddy, who you can borrow to take home. Your child can take Flossy to the dentist, or you can use the teddy as an incentive if you are struggling with toothbrushing at home. Please let a member of staff know if you would like to borrow Flossy.

Parents' meetings

Parents' meetings will be held on Wednesday 25 November. Appointment times will be available nearer the time.

Our learning

We are in the middle of our two-week focus on ourselves and friendships.

The children have been getting to know each other and forming new friendship groups, as well as getting used to their new key group and key person. They have been creating people using playdough, making a friendship banner and learning our friendship rules.

Each key person has also been planning individual activities with their key group, working towards the children's next steps and following their interests. Over the two weeks, the children will be cooking gingerbread men.
